Elephants are herbivores, they eat plants, fruits, and vegetables, also they migrate far distances to get the nutrients they need. In zoos elephants eat, cabbage, lettuce, sugar cane, apples, bananas. Elephants main food in a zoo is hay. Then in the wild elephants eat, tree leaves, flowers, wild fruit, twigs, bushes, bamboo, and bananas. In the wild grass is there main food. Elephants only fully digest about 44 percent of the food they eat. Elephants can spend about two hours eating everyday. Also elephants spend up to 80 to 90 percent of their day eating, so that results to not sleeping that much, and walking far distances. Elephants migrate a lot to find food and water. Each year a elephant migrates 7,500 miles per year.
